Feeding your pet frog as wide a variety of insect prey as possible is best. Horned frogs are primarily insectivores, meaning they only eat insects. You can provide your frog with security by using bushy plants such as ferns, philodendron, or pothos to which they can retreat to escape light and heat. Try to keep the floor of the terrarium as open as possible so your frog can utilize the space. Branches are not necessary although you can add some for aesthetic purposes. Horned frogs do not climb and spend almost all of their time partially buried in the substrate. Horned frogs go dormant during this time. For most of the year natural conditions are warm and humid but in the Autumn and Winter conditions become cooler and drier. Males will have a dark organ on the thumb (called a nuptial pad) that is used to grip the females when mating.Horned or Pacman frogs are large and sedentary frog species from the tropical grasslands and marshes of South America (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay). Once they are old enough (generally 6+ months), the most accurate way to sex your frog is to look at the thumbs. Keep an eye on your temperatures and to make sure your frog is not overheated. Pacman frogs hide in the dirt to ambush their prey. It's normal for a pacman frog to sit in the same place for days or even weeks at a time! However, encouraging them to move occasionally to spot-clean the substrate where they have been sitting is a good idea for the health of your frog. Pacman frogs are naturally sedentary and don't move much except when dinner comes by. You can also thoroughly wash and rinse your hands and keep them moist with dechlorinated water. It is best to wear nitrile gloves that are moistened with dechlorinated water.
